Develop Holistically or Suffer the Consequences
On why most of us transform in a lopsided way and what to do about it
What I’ve been sitting with a lot lately has how we must hit all of the different dimensions of our development.
The problem that most of us fall into is only hitting one of the dimensions of our development.
Either we get really strong but we don’t have morals or are disconnected with our emotions.
Or we’re really good at working with people and emotions, but we don’t have any direction for our life and we’re out of shape and have a hard time sustaining healthy habits.
Most of us are lopsided in how we develop in the world.
Which is why we must hit all of the different aspects of the developmental process.
These pillars include:
Mind - Can you concentrate for an extended period of time? How distracted are you on a daily basis? How do you relate to your thoughts? Do you beat yourself up or are you the non-judgmental witness of them?
Body - How do you want to look and feel? How does that impact other areas of your life (like how others perceive you and throw opportunities at you)? Are you fit? Do you eat healthy? What are your energy levels everyday?
Heart - What is your day-to-day emotional experience? Do you feel and work with your emotions or repress them? How much is your life driven by love and service? Are you in integrity with yourself?
Spirit - Do you feel like life lacks meaning, wonder, and fulfillment? Do you feel like life is happening to you, or that you are flowing with life? What values do you orient towards? Do you engage in spiritual practices?
To grow holistically we must hit all of these dimensions. If you miss one then your development will be lopsided.
But when we hit all of these pillars, our life because a force for good in the world. We learn how to work meaningfully with other people, our careers are a force for good in the world.
We live in integrity with ourselves (our speech, actions and beliefs are all moving in the same direction), and we have the ability to concentrate and focus for months towards our vision and actually manifest it into reality.
This is what we’re shooting for.
Amidst this process many excuses will surface:
I don’t have the time
That’s too complicated
That’s too much to juggle
I don’t know where to begin
I’m stuck and couldn’t possibly go through this transformation
Just to name a few.
Which is why so few people actually develop themselves holistically.
It’s a long-term process. It takes years, even decades of work to fully transform in this way.
To have enough foresight and long-term visioning to move towards this in the long-term is rare.
It takes radical persistence and consistency even when the results are happening.
Which is the core intent behind the book I recently published and the 100 Day Program I’m co-creating.
I’ve been heads down with the Warrior100 so haven’t released much lately, but for good reason.
The program is fast approaching and the community of Warriors is coming together.
It involves 4 daily challenges (meditation, physical training, study, and an integrity check-in).
If you want to train holistic development with me over the next 100 days then join me in the challenge. Use code BECOMECONSCIOUS and you’ll be put in a private group with weekly zoom calls led by yours truly.
Thanks for reading.
You’re part of the core tribe.
There will be more pieces released very soon.
But as a sneak peak:
I published a book on how to train depth in yourself
Cultivating discipline, service to others, and mastering interpersonal skills
so next pieces will be on these topics.
